You are welcome to leave your messages and condolences in memory of the late Mr Lee by visiting any of the eighteen community sites across Singapore.

The community sites will until 6pm 29 March 2015.

Residents may visit the sites for a live telecast of the State Funeral on 29 March 2015.

Admission is free. All community sites will also screen the State Funeral Service on 29 March 2015 “live”.

Tributes at Condolence Boards and Community Sites set up across the island

The passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew has seen an outpouring of condolences from Singaporeans from all walks of life, to pen their tributes and lay flowers at the various condolence boards set up at the Main Gate in front of the Istana and in front of Parliament House. Condolence books were also opened at all Overseas Missions for overseas Singaporeans and friends.

Various community sites were also set up at various parts of Singapore for Singaporeans to leave their notes of condolence for Singapore’s founding Prime Minister.

Singaporeans young and old alike took the time to pen their thoughts and memories of the late Mr Lee, detailing how Mr Lee had influenced their lives in different ways.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew has impacted the lives of all Singaporeans, regardless of age. Many families, young and old, have been arriving at the different community sites across Singapore to pay their last respects to the Republic’s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

Volunteers at Tampines Community Plaza

Residents have been arriving at the community site at Tampines Community Plaza to pay their respects to Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Folks young and old have come bearing flowers to lay at the tribute site and written notes of sincere thanks to Mr Lee for his contributions to Singapore.

But behind the scenes is a group of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to ensure that everything runs smoothly at the tribute sites.

“I thought I should contribute in any small way,” said Sindee Yap, a finance manager who took time off work to volunteer at the Tampines Community Plaza tribute site. A grassroots leader, Ms Yap feels heartened to see how united Singaporeans are, and to witness the kind of respect that many people have for Mr Lee.

Another volunteer, Siva Gami Subramaniam, is an athletic coach who has been volunteering at the Tampines Community Plaza tribute site since it opened, selflessly dedicating her time to ensure that everything runs smoothly. “[I want to do] whatever I can for Mr Lee Kuan Yew,” she said. “I want to contribute whatever I can to the country.”

“Because I’m Singaporean, and I feel I’m a part of it,” Mdm Miriam Mohd proudly declared when asked why she decided to volunteer at the Tampines Community Plaza tribute site. “Look at the number of people coming in. I’m very proud that deep down inside, people really care for [Mr Lee Kuan Yew]. If he can see us now, I hope he feels satisfied that whatever he did for us didn’t go to waste.”

Despite being wheelchair-bound, Uncle Chan, as he wishes to be called, has been visiting the Tampines Community Plaza tribute site every day at 10am. The 69-year-old Pioneer travels 15 minutes from his Tampines home to the site on his wheelchair for one reason only – to pay his respects to Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

“I come here because when we were young we would follow his footsteps and everything. We attended all his rallies. So it’s very emotional,” he says, pausing at some parts to hold back his tears. “I just want to be here, be with the crowd. So many people came. A lot of people were crying… because we love him.”

For those who would like to leave messages at the community sites, the People’s Association has also set up eighteen community sites for the public to pay their respects. These sites will be open daily from 10.00am to 8.00pm, until 29 March 2015.
